RBF solid modelling

ANAZ's implicit representation of a surface can be viewed as a solid model, albeit a functional one which is differentiable. The figure below illustrates the ability of an RBF to model both the interior and exterior of a very complex object to high precision. In this case a turbine blade was CT scanned and an RBF fitted to thresholded CT data. The RBF has even captured details due to CT partial voluming artefact. Only 594,00 centres were required to represent the data to a relative accuracy of 10-4 which well exceeds the CT resolution.
